Overview
Singapore, an island city-kingdom off southern Malaysia, is a international economic center
with a tropical weather and multicultural population. Its colonial core centers at the Padang, a
cricket subject since the 1830s and now flanked through grand homes such as City Hall, with its
18 Corinthian columns. In Singapore’s circa-1820 Chinatown stands the purple-and-gold
Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, said to residence one in all Buddha’s enamel.
